Our Story
The Office of Medicaid Evaluation provides timely and objective analysis on state and federal Medicaid programs for the purpose of informing evidence-based policy. Based in the Department of Health Policy at the VCU School of Public Health, OME is a team of academic researchers trained in health services research, health economics, and research methods who utilize mixed methods to analyze and evaluate Medicaid programs and policies. These include econometric analyses of large administrative health data, representative surveys of Medicaid members, and qualitative interviews of health care providers. Our research is guided by the need to be rigorous and objective in our analytical methods, and to base our conclusions strictly on the findings of our research. In an era of political polarization and changes in federal Medicaid policy, it is more important than ever that research on the Medicaid program be objective and nonpartisan, so as to provide valid and credible information to policymakers on important questions related to health care access, quality, and costs.
